AMD ACQUIRES NITERO

AMD has finally announced the acquisition of Nitero, a fabless semiconductor company based out of Austin.

Though the terms of acquisition has not been publicized, but we do know that the deal do not only include Nitero's wireless virtual reality IP, but all its employees as well.
The company's co-founder and CEO, Pat Kelly, would join AMD as Corporate Vice President, Wireless IP.

The press release went on to state that, by using high performance 60 GHZ wireless, Nitro's phase-array beam beamforming millimeter wave chip has the potential to enable multi-gigabit transmit performance with low latency in room scale VR environment without the line of sight requirement affiliated with traditional high frequency millimeter wave system.

It remains unquestionable that the industry is moving away from traditional tethered VR HMD's.
